The Norton Ranch House - 71 North Palm Street.
This large two-story Craftsman style house was built in 1910 by Mr. Norton for his home in the 40 acre walnut grove located off of Bristol Road in east Ventura. During the twentieth century many prominent families, Cheney, Callens, Vanoni, Ramelli and De Silva, were connected to this house. In 1989, the Norton Ranch House was moved to downtown Ventura, when the property on which it originally sat was purchased for development.
The house was moved to its current location in 1993. The exterior was faithfully restored including a first floor front porch and a second story porch that runs the full length of this landmark home. Attached to this expansive balcony is the "porte cochere", coach gate or carriage porch, a distinctive feature of late 18th and 19th century homes.
The Norton Ranch House was purchased by Ernest and Lila Kuhn in 1997 for their daughter Nanci Kuhn-Poirier and her husband Didier Poirier, who carefully restored it and built it out for use as their French-American restaurant.
This historic landmark craftsman cottage, just past its 100 year anniversary, is now the home of the Poirier Family's 71 Palm Restaurant.
